PIVOTAL 2010 - BANGARRA DANCE THEATRE - OF EARTH AND SKY.
A new double bill from Bangarra Dance Theatre in 2010
'RILEY' from Daniel Riley McKinley and 'ARTEFACTS' from Frances Rings
Following the extraordinary success of their 20th anniversary tour in 2009, Bangarra Dance Theatre leaps into the next 20 with a stunning new double-bill!
Always innovative and exciting, Bangarra presents two stories inspired by the evolution and diversity of both traditional and contemporary visual art forms.
Rejoining the company is highly regarded choreographer Frances Rings, who first made the move from dancer to creator with the company's Walkabout in 2002.
Bangarra is also excited to introduce the new choreographic talents of Daniel Riley McKinley making his debut with this work.
RILEY
A celebration of the life of the late Indigenous photographer Michael Riley and his acclaimed cloud series. Daniel Riley McKinley, who shares a connection with Michael through blood and land, explores the themes of connectedness to home soil, the invasion of natural forces and the cycle of life, death and spiritual rebirth.
ARTEFACTS
Inspired by the history between man and object. Artefacts is a moving passage into the world of these much respected but exploited relics. From museum antiquities and kitsch tourist souvenir through to the ancient tools imbued with symbolism this work is a powerful insight into the fragmented relationship that exists between them and us.
This extraordinary contemporary dance company return to the Adelaide Festival Centre after their successful season of True Stories in 2008. Acknowledged throughout the world for its theatricality and spirituality Bangarra Dance Theatre perform in dry creek beds in central Australia and main stages in New York and London.
"Performance with a passion and richness of culture."
