The guitar has long been the natural instrument to accompany human voice in song. It's a tradition that still thrives in many contemporary musical styles. In this concert, Australia's renowned soprano Jane Edwards and the international award- winning classical guitarist Aleksandr Tsiboulski explore the symbiosis between voice and the guitar and the depth of this combination's history through some of the finest music the guitar is blessed with.

The program, which spans four centuries, begins with the simple yet transcendent lute songs of Shakespearean composer Robert Johnson, showing the remarkable affinity that songwriters of four hundred years ago had with today's singer songwriter. On its way to recent cutting-edge compositions, the program visits the graceful and virtuosic 19th century Italian operatic style. The concert will also explore the guitar's home of Spain through Manuel de Falla's picturesque folk song settings, the poignant sparseness of Joaquin Rodrigo's songs, as well as the playfulness of Fernando Sor's Seguidillas.
