The Art of the Ensemble
Over the last 30 years there has been an explosion in the world of guitar ensembles. Celebrate the evolution, interaction and energy of the "guitar ensemble" in this double bill with Melbourne Guitar Quartet (MGQ) and Guitarissimo.
Formed in 2005, MGQ have forged a reputation for their dynamic and passionate virtuosity and theatrical on-stage musical persona. MGQ play exclusively on Australian-made instruments, drawing a closer comparison to the string quartet than a standard guitar ensemble.
The University of Adelaide's Guitarissimo have been showcasing the best emerging guitarists since it was conceived by internationally renowned German guitarist, Oliver Fartach-Naini, in 2006. Featuring award winning students from the Elder Conservatorium performing repertoire including solo and chamber music, popular tunes and surprise gems.
