SOUNSTREAM CONTEMPORARY MUSIC ENSEMBLE

Artistic Director of Soundstream Contemporary Music Ensemble, Gabriella Smart has fashioned an evening of new classical music that is poised between the ancient traditions of Asia and the West.

Acclaimed Australian composers Peter Sculthorpe, Ann Boyd, Ross Edwards and Barry Conyngham have long been inspired by the music of Asia even when the influence of Asian culture was considered unusual. Asian cultural influences are now much more prevalent in contemporary Australian culture and a younger generation of composers including Julian Yu and Anne Norman are strongly bound by their Asian perceptions.
