In the Arms of a Lion, by Peter Van Der Merwe, co-written with renowned director Penelope Chater, is a fictionalised autobiographic exploration of Van Der Merwe's childhood, set in the 1980s during the violent death throes of Apartheid, one of history's most organised systems of racial oppression.In the Arms of a Lion explores the forces of religion, racism, sexuality, and above all, fear, upon one family as it struggles to understand itself in a time of violent change. There is a dark secret at the heart of this family, laid bare in the harrowing conclusion.
