Never Turning Back is rich and intelligent community theatre. It tells stories of Australia's Indigenous peoples and their experience prior to and beyond the 1967 referendum. The stories have been obtained and developed through community storytelling sessions that uncovered some tales of hilarity, survival, and plights of leadership of elders in their struggles with governments.

The community cast features Diat Alferink, David Rathman, Uraine Mastrosavas, Bradley Harkin, Val Power and Muriel VanDerByl and a support cast of over 25 Indigenous and non-Indigenous friends and supports who act and sing in the new 90 minute show. The production team is an extended group of experienced arts professionals committed to the values of Reconciliation. They are lead by an executive committee comprising of well-known Aboriginal leaders Muriel VanDerByl, Val Power, Shirley Peisley, David Rathman and Frank Lampard.

Widjarookie (Willy Wagtail) Players was a group of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people who came together first in 1978 to present the show "When I Die You'll All Stop Laughing" in association with the National Aborigines Day Observance Committee and the Aboriginal Arts Board. Since that time the group have made a significant contribution to South Australian community theatre with shows such as "Faded Genes" (1980), "Back to the 80's - Our Schools Do it on Purpose" (1982), "Onward to Glory" (1983) and "Is This Seat Taken" (1989). The group has now re-formed with many new faces to develop Never Turning Back and reignite the Reconciliation agenda for this very significant anniversary.
