Anyone who has experienced Messiah will understand Handel's heartfelt exclamation during its composition that 'I think I did see all of heaven before me and even the great God himself.' With its mighty choruses and timeless theme of divine love transfigured by suffering and sacrifice, no other work in western music has moved so many people of all faiths, or none, for more than two and a half centuries. For this performance, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the work's first performance in South Australia (the first orchestral performance given here), the ASO is joined by a leading Australian cast of singers and Handel expert Graham Abbott.

One of the world's greatest musicians, in a career spanning four decades, Pinchas Zukerman is universally admired for his supreme musicality. In this concert he is joined by his wife, the Canadian dynamo Amanda Forsyth in a wonderful celebration of an inspiring musical partnership. La Muse et le Poète, written in the composer's old age, reveals Saint-Saëns had lost none of his quintessential Gallic charm and elegance. Brahms produced many masterpieces, none more radiant than the Double Concerto for violin and cello, a dazzling experience in the hands of these top ranking musicians.
