A headfirst dive into self-discovery, pride and immortality.
Choreographed and performed by the award-winning Larissa McGowan, Cher is a contemporary dance work that examines gender, power and popular culture through the lens of the ultimate pop chameleon.
McGowan’s inspired performance journeys through Cher’s sixty-year career, using her iconic status and honorific titles of ‘Queen of the Comeback’ and ‘Goddess of Pop’ as totems for exploring the pressures of transformation and reinvention faced by aging female artists.
Created with an all-star team of South Australian artists, this solo tour de force is back for four shows only on the Festival Theatre Stage.
Theatre seating is checkerboard with one empty seat between each patron in a row. Limited cabaret table seating is available for groups of 4 - book early to avoid disappointment!
McGowan is a choreographer who refuses to shy away from the uncomfortable Sydney Morning Herald
A sparkling reminder that one of the purposes of art is to make the familiar strange, and the strange familiar Ben Brooker
